One of the most well-known designers of his age has passed away from cancer on Sunday November 28th, 2021.
LVMH posted on Instagram on Sunday the following statement: “LVMH, Louis Vuitton and Off-White are devastated to announce the passing of Virgil Abloh, on Sunday, 28 November, of cancer, which he had been battling privately for several years.”
It is important to take a moment to appreciate Virgil Abloh’s grand contribution in the world of fashion and luxury with his creative mind. In order to remember Abloh, let’s take a look at his successful career.
1. He has a master’s degree in Architecture
Despite the fact that Abloh is entirely at ease in the fashion business, it was not his first career choice. He graduated from the Illinois Institute of Technology with a master’s degree in architecture.
2. He worked for Kanye West in 2009
In 2009, Abloh became the artistic director of Kanye West’s creative agency Donda, where he oversaw shows and designed merchandised products for the singer’s brand.
3. Launched his own brand: PYREX
Seen as the first incarnation of Off-White, Abloh founded Pyrex Vision in 2012. Screen-printed logos on Champion t-shirts and dead stock Ralph Lauren flannels were among the brand’s offerings.
4. OFF-WHITE Came to Life
In an interview with British Vogue backstage at Paris Fashion Week, Abloh described Off White as a woman who “grew up riding horses, so has a knowledge of formalwear, but is equally captivated by going to the gym throughout the week and finding out how to wear athleisure in a new manner.”
5. Collaborating is in his DNA
Off-White has numerous collaborations under its belt, including those with eyewear label Warby Parker, Moncler, sports brand Nike and furniture brand IKEA.
As DAY ROSE Collective, we are deeply saddened by the sudden loss of Virgil Abloh, and will remember him and his work forever.
